The Monkees at Flint Center for the Performing Arts | Cupertino, California | 11/11/2012 (Concert Review)
“We don’t own this song anymore… you do.“ Micky Dolenz, introducing “Daydream Believer”, following one of many tributes to Davy Jones, who passed away earlier this year, towards the end of a massive 29-song set at one of a handful of shows comprising this special tour by The Monkees. It was quite an interesting night at The Flint Center for the Performing Arts. I’d never seen the truly classic and historic band perform live, and I wasn’t sure if they’d come out to the song most familiar to those who watched the 60s television show which brought them together, the theme song “The Monkees”. Well, they didn’t, and they actually never even played it at all. Though The Monkees were born of the popularity of Beatlemania, they each started as musicians in their own right, and a real band grew out of the invented one cast for the television series, and obviously the band proper had more longevity than the show. The line-up of pop icons Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork took to the stage last week for the for time in 15 years, with just 12 dates running through early December. This is one of those tours which begs the question: can/should a band continue on without a principal member? I think in this case, it is a resounding “yes”, in that it was very much a celebration of Davy Jones and what this unlikely group created and nurtured going back 45 years. A real opportunity for fans of all ages to experience these popular music and television pioneers.

Inside Gold & Silver Pawn (The “Pawn Stars” Shop)
I met up with some friends of mine who live in Las Vegas, who, like me, collect original artifacts from film, television, and music. I became acquainted with them years ago through my Original Prop Blog, and they have been huge supporters of my efforts. The History Channel series Pawn Stars has been a topic of discussion on the Original Prop Blog for years (see original article), so who could pass up the opportunity to check out the store where it all happens? So we visited Gold and Silver Pawn.

Coldplay Crisis “Hidden Gig” Trip – England Journal Day Six, Seven, Eight

England Journal: Day Six. Today was the first day of the trip I didn’t need to be somewhere by a certain time, so that was a relief. I used the opportunity to have a halfway decent night’s sleep (over three hours!). Both Oz and Carrie left late night/early morning to catch their respective flights out. Unfortunately, around the time I was planning to check out of the house, I received a text from Carrie that powerlines related to the train system had come down, and her train was stalled on the tracks.
