Dido’s first world tour in many, many years kicked off in Prague this week. Supporting her amazing new album, Still On My Mind, this is her first global tour in 15 years. The tour reaches North America in Chicago in mid-June, and their are opportunities for fans to also buy tickets for a premium experience including meet and greet and an invite to the soundcheck. It’s been twenty years since Dido’s multi-platinum debut in 1999, No Angel (ultimately selling 21 million copies!).
So this will be an unusually personal concert preview for the Rock Subculture Journal. I usually keep these to strictly reporting the facts of upcoming shows and tours. But this is the exception. I have been a huge, huge Dido fan, and she is one artist who I’ve never had an opportunity to see live in person.
I was always a fan of her work, but it wasn’t until I bought the DVD for Live at Brixton Academy that I came to fully appreciate the genius of her music. Hearing and seeing the live performance of her work really took it to another level for me, and that became my “go to” DVD that I would always play in the background when working at my home office. It is just such a joyful work, and always put me in a great mood.
When people have asked me if I could go back in time to see any historic rock ‘n’ roll live show, what would it be… I always say Dido live at Brixton Academy and people look at me like they have no idea what I’m talking about. But it is the truth. She’s the one artist I’ve been so excited to see some day, and it will finally happen with this tour!
So this is far and away the tour I’m most excited about for 2019. Mrs. Rocksubculture (Shelley) and I have plans to turn out for at least three of the shows on this tour.
In any event… you can find all the details about which stop on the tour might be closest for you, as well as soundcheck/meet and greet tickets, on the official site at www.didomusic.com:
