Of Monsters And Men at Grand Theatre at Grand Sierra Resort & Casino | Reno, Nevada | 4/15/2016 (Concert Review + Photos)

“This is our first stop in America in a while…”  Ragnar Þórhallsson, in preface to the final song of the night, “Yellow Light”.  Ragnar performed beside Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, who he shares lead vocals with in their Icelandic indie folk/pop band Of Monsters And Men, playing before what appeared to be a sold out crowd at the Grand Theatre at Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno.  This was a special show in advance of their Coachella appearance next week, and kicked off their larger world tour currently booked out through July.  The word “electric” comes to mind to describe the show, but so much of their sound is of the “unplugged” variety.  Yet they seem to create a whirlwind of energy that touched each fan in the crowd, bringing something otherworldly to the stage.  They have such a unique yet consistent sound it’s almost as though they have created their own genre of music, in sound and themes.  They definitely bring something unique and uniquely beautiful to the music world at large, and create an experience with both their studio recordings and live shows that is, for lack of a better word, magical and timeless.  Definitely one of the best tours to check out this year if you get the opportunity. Live 105’s BFD 2015 at Shoreline Amphitheatre – PART TWO (MAIN STAGE) | Mountainview, California | 6/6/2015 (Concert Review + Photos)

Live 105’s BFD 2015 festival at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountainview, California marked the 21st time that the annual event has been held.  Live 105, “The Bay Area’s Alternative”, had a well curated line-up of known and emerging acts, covering a wide range of musical genres that all fall under the “alternative” banner, including 15 local acts.  All of this resulted in a quick sell out for the entire show.  With a vast line-up, they managed to squeeze it all into one day, with two “Festival Stages” that alternated back and forth throughout the day (to mitigate any downtime – it was literally non-stop music) as well as a “Subsonic Tent” and “Soundcheck Local Band Stage”, which ran concurrently.  It all lead up to the “Main Stage” acts within the Shoreline Amphitheatre itself, which ran back to back through the night.  A fantastic show that seemed to come off without a hitch, playing to over 20,000 fans.  This article features my PART TWO coverage, which focuses on the nighttime “Main Stage” artists and performances.

“Not So Silent Night” by Live 105 (Night 1, #NSSN) at Oracle Arena | Oakland, California | 12/7/2012 (Concert Review)

December 8, 2012 by Jason DeBord 10 Comments

Not So Silent Night (NSSN) is Live 105’s “Annual Holiday Rock Show”, with 2012 being the first year it spans two consecutive nights.  This first night featured headliner Jack White, along with The Shins, Metric, Of Monsters and Men, The Gaslight Anthem, Two Door Cinema Club, and Our Vinyl Vows.  I’ve never been a fan of traditional, outdoor festivals (for a variety of reasons), but this was an extremely well organized multi-artist event that can serve as a model for how to do them right, and comprised an excellent line-up of artists.  The packed Oracle Arena was treated to seven great acts in under seven hours.  It was a really fantastic evening celebrating the work of some really great bands, with Jack White closing things out with a really amazing performance.
