This article features the latest in an ongoing series of “Rock Talk” podcast audio interviews for the Rock Subculture Journal. The first guest for 2015 is Dick Dale, a legend in music, regarded as both “The King of the Surf Guitar” and the “Father of Heavy Metal”.  Now 77 years old, Mr. Dale is well known to younger generations for his 1962 song, “Misirlou”, which was used by Quentin Tarantino as the title track in his film, Pulp Fiction.

Milo Greene Album “Control” Due in January; Headlining Tour Coming in February & March 2015

Milo Greene’s second studio album, Control, is due out via Elektra  on January 27th, with the second album track, “On The Fence”, having come out last week (which you can stream on YouTube).  Having recently finished a tour with Bombay Bicycle Club and a few sold out headlining dates of their own, they have now announced their first headlining tour in support of their Jesse Shatkin-produced sophomore album, which will kick off at SOhO in Santa Barbara and run through mid-March. The Psychedelic Furs 2014 Concert Tour In U.S. Continues Through November and January of 2015

English post-punk and New Wave band, The Psychedelic Furs, will be completing the U.S. tour that kicked off last month throughout November, with a break in December, and picking back up in January of next year.  With many of their hits being synonymous with 80s pop culture, the band remains one of the best known from that era to turn out for at new concert tours today.  The Lemonheads are touring with the band. “We keep moving back now, further back to the 70s…  you guys are fans of the 70s, right?”  Daryl Hall and John Oates continued to delve deep into their catalog at their show at Mountain Winery in Saratoga on Thursday night.  With a seemingly endless reservoir of top hits, the number one duo of all time were in a special groove.  I’ve always counted them as one of the top live acts of all time, and every time I see them play I feel that sentiment more strongly.  As incredible as their studio cuts of each song are, they come to life in such a special way at their live shows.  There is an element of improvisation and a kind of subconscious jamming among the band where they can riff and extend songs out in a way that makes everything fresh and new and unpredictable.  And somehow better than ever.  They usually hit Mountain Winery every year, but were missed in 2013, so it was great to have them return this year.

2014 and 2015 are shaping up to be epic for fans of Billy Idol, starting with the Dancing With Myself autobiography, hitting stores and online retailers tomorrow.  Today is the last day to pre-order for an entry into the Dancing With Myself Sweepstakes, and today is the first day of a limited number of book signings in the United States and the United Kingdom throughout October.  In just a few weeks, on October 21st, the first new Billy Idol studio album in some time, Kings & Queens Of The Underground, will drop.  The new single, “Can’t Break Me Down”, is already available.  While UK and European concert dates were announced for November some time ago, today North American dates were announced for January and February 2015, including special meet and greet tickets.
